Aussie DipKits

Welcome to our FAQ.

Q: What can you Dip?

A: Almost anything which is able to withstand being fully immersed into water is suitable for Dipping. The material of your object must also be able to be painted.

Q: What is the largest object which can be dipped?

A: The Kit comes with a film which is 50cm wide and 200cm in length. This limits you to items slightly less than this allowing for some wrapping of the film around your object. You will also require a container large enough for your item.

Q: Can I change the colour of my Kit?

A: Kits are supplied with primers in a colour suitable for most applications. The base colours can however affect the finished colour of the item. If you would like to experiment with different base colours you should purchase a primer suitable for the material of your object.

Q: How tough is the coating on the finished item?

A: Always a complicated question as it depends on the quality of the preparation, the application and of course the actual material of your item. Being paint, a Dipped item will be as durable as most paints. Using the Clear coating will however increase the durability considerably.

Q: What films are available?

A: Check out our Shop for our current films in stock. If you have seen a film available somewhere else just let us know and we will see if it is possible to add it to our stock list.

Q: What is the most important process?

A: All processes are important, However, PREPARATION is the key. Take your time and prepare your work thoroughly. Sand well,  Wait the times for layers to dry and so on. I cannot stress it enough, Preparation is the key!

Q: Why do I get cracks in the base coat of paint?

A: This is usually caused from holding the spray can too close to your job or applying too much paint. You are best to apply 2 light coats rather than 1 heavy one.

Q: What are the best conditions for painting?

A: Ambient temperature between 23C and 28C is ideal. Avoid cold temperatures. Low humidity is also desirable.

Q: Why has my gloss clear coat discoloured?

A: Clear gloss can discolour to a milky white look. This is usually a combination of cold temperatures and humid conditions. The coat will trap moisture present in the air as it is sprayed upon the object in a cool environment. This is a common painting mishap. IF this happens to you and you feel that the job must be started again then try the following (i.e nothing to lose, and this may just work). Spray the gloss coat with the Activator in the kit. This will have the effect of liquifying the gloss coat and the slow acting solvent may draw out the moisure. We have employed this strategy to good effect on occasion. NOTE: Be sure not to touch the surface as it will be soft like it was just sprayed and you will mark it.
